Empowering Individuals of All Abilities to Experience the Joy of Waterskiing
At the Webster Water Ski Collective, we love introducing people to water skiing. There’s nothing quite like watching someone experience the sport for the very first time—the smiles, laughter, and excitement are contagious and remind us why we fell in love with skiing ourselves.
Adaptive water skiing takes that feeling to another level. It’s the reason we host Learn to Ski events and why we’re proud to be one of the few clubs in the country working to make water skiing accessible to people of all ages and abilities through our growing Adaptive Water Ski program.
A Program That Continues to Grow
Over the past several seasons, our Adaptive Ski program has grown steadily, allowing us to offer more events, reach more athletes, and expand to new locations.
In 2022, we hosted four adaptive ski events across four different lakes, successfully pulling more than 100 adaptive skiers throughout the season. That same year, we were thrilled to welcome several skiers with Down syndrome into our general club sessions, giving them the opportunity to ski regularly on weekends and continue progressing in the sport alongside our broader community.
Where It All Began
Our adaptive journey began in 2020, our very first season as a club. With the help of the Leaps of Faith (LOF) skiers from Sandy Hook, Connecticut, we hosted our first-ever “Any Age, Any Disability” Adaptive Ski Event at Point Breeze on Webster Lake.
That inaugural event welcomed 24 adaptive skiers ages 5–28, with a wide range of abilities including autism, Down syndrome, spina bifida, blindness, muscular atrophy, and more. It was an unforgettable day—one where it was hard to tell whether the participants or the volunteers were having more fun. From that moment on, we were hooked, and our commitment to adaptive skiing has only grown stronger each year.
